Alex’s Favorite albums of 09 (Alex is the host of the Sunday Night Shuffle, Sundays from 6-8 PM)

In reviewing my original list of top 2009 albums, I realized there were way too many good albums, but only a handful that I find myself repeatedly gravitating towards. Here are the few albums ticking the top of my most played list….

The Devil Makes Three, The Devil Makes Three….

im a sucker for anything old-timey. if anything from the instrumentation of the album to the song-writing styles strikes me as “less than modern” i am probably into it.  i cant think of  a better 2009 album to pair up with a bottle of whiskey and a campfire.

Restavrant, Return To The Tomb of Guiliano Medidici……

“album of the year”  if you want my opinion. who else can put a drum machine with a banjo and REALLY make it work?!?!?! i wont attempt to sum up this album. its just that damn good. check it out.

Elliot Brood, Mountain Meadows

so this is up there with restavrant for album of the year. i love how these guys are perpetuating the trend of mixing unorthodox strings into the “indie-folk” scene. you cant go wrong with ukeleles and banjos. check out their fd sessions on the web.

Deer Tick, Born On Flagday

now here is an album that will keep you good company.  john mccauley’s voice gave me chills the first time i heard him.  i can honestly say i enjoy every single song on this album, and i really love “The Ghost.”

Jeffrey Foucault, Shoot The Moon Right Between The Eyes (J. Foucault Sings The Songs of John Prine)

i am a huge john prine fan. to hear another one of my favorite singer/songwriters perform his music with such passion is downright priceless. great rainy-day off-season music. 5 of the tracks on this album are on my itunes’ top 25 most played.
