Andrew Wyatt offers up a review of Galactic‘s latest visit to the region with plenty of great pics. Thanks to the band for an amazing, high-energy performance (they are in top form folks!) and kudos to Bryce and Dom for making it happen, another fine evening at the Knotty Pine in Victor, ID.
Every week our fearless music director reviews piles of new music that get added to a special rack in our on-air studio. Known as the “New Music Rack”, this is the magical place our DJs visit to find the hottest tracks that make you, our dedicated listeners, come back to KHOL time and time again for your new sounds.
In an effort to keep those of you who can’t listen 24/7 in the new music “loop”, I present to you the Best of the Rack. This is a completely subjective post of my favorite new albums that get added to or are currently sitting on the new music rack. I hope you dig ‘em, if you do call your local DJ and request ‘em (you know we love to hear from you!) 733-4030. If there’s something I’m overlooking or you want to add your opinion, post a comment or shoot a malicious email to Brad@jhcr.org! Read more →
Just wanted to let our listeners know that TV on the Radio will be performing on television sets across the country this weekend. Hot off the heels of their Album of the Year (Dear Science,) awards from both Spin& Rolling Stone, TV on the Radio will be performing on Saturday Night Live and on Monday’s The Colbert Report. But wait, it get’s even better….
One of the most distinctive elements of their album Dear Science, is the horn arrangements and you know these guys wouldn’t settle for just any old horn players for their live show. In fact, they will be reuniting with two of the players that recorded on Dear Science, – Stuart Bogie & Aaron Johnson. Add Jordan McLean and you’ve got 3/4′s of the Antibalas Horn Section (Stuart, Aaron and Jordan). Martin Perna (also of Antibalas) who performed on Dear Science, and their Live at Amoeba EPwill not be there.
So, to recap, the original horn players from the album sessions, the Antibalas Horn Section will be joining TV on the Radio as they perform this weekend on Saturday Night Live and on The Colbert Report this coming Monday!
here they are playing Love Dog off of Dear Science
The Jackson Hole Music Festival was one of the best things that happened to me last summer. Some of my favorite bands were there, including the relatively-unknown-for-how-awesome-they-are Avett Brothers from Concord North Carolina. After around 11 releases over the last 8 years these guys are finally starting to get some national attention. Even after a long day in the hot sun on Saturday of the festival, many Jacksonites and visitors made it a priority to see the Avetts open day two of the fest. We were rewarded with a energetic performance that found the Avetts stomping their way through their unique blend of Folk, Bluegrass and Americana. Bloody Mary in hand, I bounced on my toes as the first dust clouds of the day began to rise from in front of the stage. I’d been a fan of this band for awhile (they’re a staple on my Tuesday morning show, The Morning Bender w Brad), but this live performance solidified them as one of my favorites. Read more →
